30 Years Later: Are We Protecting Children’s Rights?

November 2019 marks 30 years since the signing of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, a human rights treaty which sets out the civil, political, economic, social, health and cultural rights of children. Though the United States played an active role in drafting the Convention and signing it, it remains the sole signatory that has not ratified the Convention.

“30 Years Later: Are We Protecting Children’s Rights?” will discuss how this treaty has affected children’s rights globally and in the U.S., and what more can be done to ensure the rights of children are protected.

• Susan Bissell, Founding Director of the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children, UNICEF Global Chief Child Protection (former)
• Lee Gelernt, ACLU Lawyer and Deputy Director of ACLU’s National Immigrants’ Rights Project
